Deep Cove

The year 8s of Winton School ventured into Deep Cove and had an awesome time. We went on lots of walks including Hanging Valley the views at the top were amazing but unfortunately it was raining on the way down. We went fishing on the wharf and some of us were lucky enough to fish on the dinghies. On the first night we saw glow worms in our pjs. We went on a boat cruise through Doubtful Sounds and saw some penguins riding the waves. Stella falls had amazing views to offer. We went to the underground Power Station in a bus and got to see how things work.
Deep Cove was a once in a life time experience and we will never forget it

Nigel Brown art reflection

My symbols and colours reflect my culture by the mountains and natural colours because my family enjoys being in the nature.

The significance of the symbols / images are I enjoy creative things.

I am pleased with my wording at the top of the board because it explains me.

I think my work is balanced because I used black to outline things so they would stand out. And it made my I AM bigger so it stands out to.

The words I AM are an effective part of my composition because I put them in the front and used different shades of green so it has a nature feel.

my art is similar and different to Nigel Browns. It is similar because I used lots of earthy colours. It is different because mine has a lot of white in it.

Favourite thing

My favourite page in the Otago daily times is the poems page because you get to read what kids my age have written. My favourite poem is called Gallipoli it's about what happened in World War One but in a soldiers view.

Woodwork bedside cabinets

In woodwork this week I chose the project bedside cabinet. On the first day there everyone designed what they wanted their project to look like I wanted mine green with three red love hearts on one side of the cabinet, I also chose to put a hole there so I could reach in to get things. I put slots in the sides so the shelves could slide in. On the last day I painted the cabinet and super glued the love hearts on. Here is a picture of the finished product.

British girl saves orphan Elephants

For reading we have been looking at news from Dogonews I chose an article about a British girl dedicating her life to help save baby orphan elephants. The baby elephants parents have been killed by poachers. Also if we found any words we didn't understand we had to find the meaning of them. I really enjoyed this activity.
